Artist Statement:

“Sometimes art has to be unexpected and surprising. In fact, if it gets across and meets those categories it often transcends a lot of other art, and this has it in spades.” *

Michelle Driver is an artist who has chosen woven tapestry as a means to express her ideas to the world. In her true, non-conventional style however, she takes a historically rich mastercraft and twists it to create non-conformist, thought-provoking pieces.

She is drawn to mediums that are not conventionally found in art galleries – for her, this represents a challenge to push the boundaries of what art is ‘supposed’ to be. A seemingly domestic medium can be transformed into unconventional art pieces which are both tactile and visually striking.

Michelle lives in the southern suburbs of Adelaide, South Australia with her partner Anita, step-daughter Lily and four rescue cats.  Her other obsessions are Goth / Deathrock music and watching BBC art documentaries.
