Road Trip: Larry The Lobster is an original handwoven tapestry by Michelle Driver, made in Adelaide, South Australia. This work reimagines the iconic Big Lobster - the 17 metre roadside landmark in Kingston SE, South Australia - through the deliberate, tactile language of hand weaving. 

Woven in wool, cotton and linen, the tapestry balances bold form with a controlled palette. Shadows and contrast hold the lobster’s figure against its dark ground, allowing subtle notes of orange to punctuate a field that is both intriguing and slightly unsettling. The piece quietly invokes nostalgia and absurdity, rooted in Australia’s affection for oversized roadside attractions.

Grounded in process and material, this work holds the physical imprint of handweaving: time, tension, and the resonance of fibre. While this piece has been called 'Larry in hell', the artwork resides in the interplay of surface, scale and presence.
